- Black Label began as the cigar Pete Johnson kept for himself, an attempt to recreate the rough, unbanded smokes Cuban rollers made for their own after-hours use. It surfaced in 2007 as a corona gorda in small batches, then in ceramic jars, before settling in as the regular Private Reserve line. The Garcia family rolls it at My Father in Esteli: a Nicaraguan puro under a sun-grown criollo wrapper, the darkest-tempered of Tatuaje's core lines.
- Wrapper: Nicaraguan sun-grown Criollo (Esteli).
- Binder: Nicaraguan.
- Filler: Nicaraguan.
- From Nicaragua.
